The special thing of Dutch cooking is that it integrates cultures into recipes. Most visitors to Holland see the Dutch as a culture of potato's and cheese with influences of Indonesia and Italy. In later years, the influences of Surinam, Turkey, Northern Africa and the Middle East were added. The flavors have been adapted to suit Dutch tastes. The adaption and ability to incorporate new and 'foreign' tastes is what gives the Dutch the ability to create dishes that will surprise you. These days Holland is rewarded with top restaurants with 1, 2 or 3 Michelin stars.
